Lads to Leaders

This weekend we went to Nashville for the Lads to Leaders Convention. Katy and Daniel both participated in several events. Katy did Good Samaritan, Photography, Scrapbook, Speech, and Puppets. Daniel did Good Samaritan, Speech, Songleading, Oral Bible Reading, and Puppets. We are very proud of them both!
Our group did very well at the convention. Becky and I are trying to think of ways to help make this a more productive activity for our young people. It really provides the kids great opportunities to learn about being leaders in the church.

Quick Trip

Katy and I made a quick trip to Cherokee to visit my mom and dad. We went after church on Wednesday night and spent the day on Thursday. Stacy and Joseph came on Thursday, so we got to spend some time with them, too. Mother, Stacy, and I visited with Jean (her husband, Coach Hubbard passed away recently). Joseph and Katy had a good time together. Katy needed to make some pictures to turn in with her yearbook staff application, so she decided to make some picture of Mother's flowers. We had to leave Thursday afternoon so we could get back home in time for the basketball game at Oman Arena. We enjoyed the time we were able to spend with Nana, PawPaw, Aunt Stacy, and Josie.

Natasha Richardson

Katy loved watching The Parent Trap when it came out in 1998. We watched it over and over. I loved Natasha Richardson in the movie. I really couldn't remember her real name, so when the news broke about her skiing accident, I had to look it up to see if this was who I remembered from this movie. I'm so sad about her death - especially since she had two young sons. It really causes you to think about priorities and how we need to have our lives in order.

Katy's Insect Collection

Katy had a major biology project: an insect collection. She could either compile pictures from books and the internet or collect actual insects and mount them onto a board along with labels, etc. This is my child who screams when she sees a bug - any kind of bug, so I thought she would choose the first of the options. I was wrong. It must be very nice to be able to do an insect collection without actually touching any insects. She called my dad and asked him to collect insects for her and I got out and tried to collect. Our family and friends all pitched in to help Katy - even the children in my class at school. She completed all the mounting by using tweazers, and looked up all the information, typed it, and mounted it to her board. I thought she did a great job, and so did her teacher - she got 100!
