Daniel and Travel Ball

This summer Daniel is playing Dixie Youth baseball as well as travel ball. We've been watching a lot of baseball so far this summer. Looks like it's going to be a long, hot summer of baseball fun!!

Daniel's 12th Birthday

Daniel's birthday was August 31. We celebrated with our family on the Saturday before. He decided that he wanted a soccer cake this year. We enjoyed grilled hamburger and hotdogs along with cake and ice cream. Nana, PawPaw, Aunt Stacy, Evelyn, Joseph, MawMaw, and PawPaw came for the birthday celebration. Daniel's really lucky to have such a loving family that loves him so much. Happy 12th Birthday, Daniel!! We love you!

Daniel's Playing Soccer

Daniel decided that he wanted to play soccer this year. Wayne and I weren't too sure if he would like it, but he has totally surprised us. Not only does he like it, he is really good at it. He's not too thrilled with his number - 13- he says it's not a good number.

Lads to Leaders

This weekend we went to Nashville for the Lads to Leaders Convention. Katy and Daniel both participated in several events. Katy did Good Samaritan, Photography, Scrapbook, Speech, and Puppets. Daniel did Good Samaritan, Speech, Songleading, Oral Bible Reading, and Puppets. We are very proud of them both!

Our group did very well at the convention. Becky and I are trying to think of ways to help make this a more productive activity for our young people. It really provides the kids great opportunities to learn about being leaders in the church.

Daniel's All-Star Baseball Team

Daniel has loved sports since he was a baby, and baseball has been his favorite since he was very small. (Basketball seems to be moving into first place lately though.) This past season Daniel was selected to play on Chester County's All-Star team. Wayne as the coach for the team. He is so good to work with Daniel's friends not only on playing a game correctly but also treating people the right way. The team was made up of Grant Burns, Savon Trice, Daniel, Jaylan Northern, Josh Laster, Cameron Neely, Eric Arnold, Ryan Hodges, Brian Napoli, LaDerrick Means, Kason Emison, and Lucas Glover. The team represented Chester County very well when playing and by the way they treated the other players.

Daniel and Wayne Go to Memphis

On Thursday, December 30, Daniel and Wayne went to see the Memphis Grizzlies with some friends, Dane and Grant Burns. Daniel and Grant play basketball and baseball together, and they also spend lots of time talking on the telephone to each other.

Their trip started with a yummy meal at the Spaghetti Warehouse in Memphis. Wayne had lasagna and Daniel had chicken alfredo.
Then it was time to go to the game! The Grizzlies were playing the Phoenix Suns without Steve Nash. The guys had great seats! Look how close they were to Shaq. They were also pretty close when Amare Stoudemire got thrown out of the game after getting two technical fouls.

To top off a great night, as they were walking around the arena looking for Dippin' Dots, they ran into two Memphis Tigers basketball players, Tyreke Evans and Pierre Henderson Niles. Daniel and Grant were thrilled to have their picture made with them!

Daniel's Basketball Games on 12/20/08

Someone contacted Wayne about organizing a "travel" basketball team much like the travel baseball teams that Daniel has played on. Today was the first game for the Chester County team. They had had one practice together on Thursday night, but still they played very well considering that these guys are spread out among seven teams here in Henderson. The team members were Daniel, JJ Dotson, Jonathan Phillips, Brady Clark, Collin McPherson, Wilson Miskelly, Kyle Brown, Braden Lott, and Trey Deming. We won the first game by 20 points and lost the second game by 5 points.
